Sugar Snap, Runner Bean, Broad Bean was recently announced as the winner of the Grindstone Literary Flash Fiction 1000 Competition.
Grindstone described it as ‘heartfelt and potent writing’.
I was inspired to write this piece by my school work experience (over 20 years ago!) with the local hospital. Much of my time was spent with people suffering from Alzheimers. I met some wonderful amazing people – NHS staff, patients and their families.
The ending comes from a news story I once heard or possibly imagined but now I can’t quite remember… I hope it wasn’t true.
